Heads up, Tomb Raider Fans: Lara Croft anime is heading to Netflix

Feb 4, 2021 0 comments

By now, you’ve probably heard of Lara Croft, the all-around female badass lead of the Tomb Raider franchise. So far, you’ve seen her in films (as played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander), video games, and even in the comics. Just recently, however, it’s been announced that a Tomb Raider anime is in the works!

As of writing, the details about the new anime series are still limited. However, one thing is for sure, it will be streamed on Netflix, which happens to be on a roll with the video game-related series. The new Tomb Raider anime will be the latest project based on the classic video game. In 2018, Alicia Vikander also played the feminist icon, Lara Croft in another Tomb Raider film directed by Roar Uthaug.

Lara Croft's video game adventures

If you haven’t played any of these games, now’s a good time as any to try them. If legendary lost cities, in particular, pique your interest, this is actually the perfect franchise for you. For example, the first game in the reboot trilogy, Tomb Raider, was released in 2013 and follows a then-fresh archeology graduate Lara as she searches for the lost island of Yamatai somewhere off the coast of Japan.

The story continues with the second game in the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and finds Lara up north in Kitezh, a legendary city in Russia. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the last of the reboot trilogy, brings her to the other side of the world and is set in the legendary lost city of Paititi, which is said to be located somewhere in Peru, Bolivia, or Brazil.

That probably doesn’t say much about any of the games but we really didn’t want to spoil anything. These games are really worth playing, promise. They’re fun, action-packed games that are rich in history, mythology, and culture too. And with the anime series coming out at a still undisclosed date, it’s a great way to spend time as we all wait.
