#Metroseen: Brisa Amir is a weaver of paper and soul

May 9, 2023 0 comments
Brisa Amir's art style is unique, blending textures and colors with cutouts of natural growth to create something that is both abstract and tangible. She is a Virgo with a Sagittarian soul who describes herself as a weaver of paper and soul.
Brisa draws inspiration from her environment and the people in her life, but she also believes in showing up and doing the work without looking for inspiration. Her work reflects her intuition and observations of the urban landscapes around her which is why her art is organic and natural, allowing the creative process to unfold on its own.

A weaver of paper and soul

Growing up, Brisa had always wanted to be a theatre actress. Still, her interest in the behind-the-scenes work led her to become a part-time production designer for music videos and short films, alongside being a full-time artist. This has allowed her to explore different avenues of creativity and expand her artistic horizons.
Brisa's art reflects her innermost self, and she invites viewers to experience her work through her Instagram. Her paintings are an interplay of textures and colors, while her cutouts of rusted gates, wildflowers, foliage, and mycelium add an organic element to her art.
What sets Brisa's work apart is her approach to art-making. She doesn't plan her art pieces but lets them unfold naturally, much like the growth of a plant. This adds an element of surprise and unpredictability to her work, making it all the more fascinating.
“I have two steps. First, paint textures first, and afterward, I make collages out of them. I see that the style in my paintings is all from intuition and abstraction, especially the mark-making. It's all inspired by urban landscapes. My cutouts are traces of growth from my observation of rusted gates, wildflowers, foliage, and mycelium that are reclaiming spaces. I cut and paste my paintings, and it keeps on growing like a real plant.
Apart from being a full-time artist, Brisa is also a part-time production designer in music videos and short films. She’s a big fan of Catalina Africa and loves listening to dark minimal techno & witch house music. Brisa also enjoys reading graphic novels, and one of her favorites is A Black Hole by Charles Burns.  Brisa also the artist behind Syd Hartha's album cover art for the Gabay EP.
In a world that often demands conformity, Brisa's art stands out for its uniqueness and originality. Her work is a reminder that true creativity lies in letting go of preconceived notions and allowing the art to flow naturally.
Brisa Amir is a name to watch out for in the world of art. With her unique approach to collage art and her innate ability to weave soul into her work, she is all set to make a mark in the art world.
