Respected poet, literary critic, and writer, Virgilio S. Almario, also known by his pen name Rio Alma, has been writing poems every day since March 22.

According to Esquire PH, the National Artist for Literature has been publishing new poems everyday online and plans to write until the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) is lifted. That means we will be having new poems till May 15-unless it gets extended, again.

Almario has composed and published 42 poems since March 22.

His latest work, titled Maskara explains how we all wear masks that disguise our true selves. It's a metaphorical take on the facade we carry in front of people and how we mask certain emotions and desires.

Another poem, titled May Paminsan-Minsang Ulan Sa Tag-Aráw (There is Some Rain in the Dry Season) talks about the unseen acts of heroism in this trying times.

You can read more of his recent works on his Facebook page.

Apart from his new poems, Almario's works include the children's story "Ibong Adarna," and Filipino translations of Jose Rizal's "Noli Me Tangere" and "El filibusterismo." He was conferred the rank of national artist in 2003 by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
