Due to the cancellation of blood drives, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) faces a severe blood shortage. This dangerous blood shortage — if not solved immediately —may cause yet another public health crisis in the country.

As a first-hand solution, nurses and doctors have already been donating blood themselves for their patients. PGH is now encouraging everyone to donate.

How to donate

PGH is one of the designated COVID-19 referral centers in Metro Manila. That’s why social distancing measures will be greatly implemented.

Interested participants will be asked to make an appointment first via the PGH Blood Bank, whose contact details are as follows:

To ensure the blood supply is as safe as possible, all donors must meet specific eligibility criteria:

  1. The Donor must be at least 17 years old.
  2. The Donor must be in a healthy condition and having no pre-existing illnesses.
  3. The Donor must also not have gotten a fever or any infections such as cough, colds, or vomiting one week before their donation.
