The 6 Best LGBTQ+ Movies and Series to Watch on Netflix During Pride Month

And just like that, we’ve entered a new month.

June isn’t just any other ordinary month though, especially for the members of the LGBT+ community. June happens to be Pride Month.

To celebrate Pride Month, we’ve rounded up different movies and series that you can stream on Netflix that focuses on this wonderful community and its members. And for those celebrating, we would like to greet each one of you a very Happy Pride Month!

Gameboys Level-Up Edition

BL (Boys’ Love) series have been wildly popular among Filipinos during the pandemic and we don’t have to look any further than here in our country for a series worth watching. Gameboys Level-Up Edition stars Kokoy De Santos and Elijah Canlas as two gamer boys who meet online after one beats the other during a gaming session. If you’ve yet to try watching films under the computer screen film genre, this series is a good intro to it as well.

POSE

If you're looking for an inspiring show, Ryan Murphy's Pose is definitely a must-watch on Netflix. Set in the late-80s and early-90s, the series puts the spotlight on New York City’s underground ballroom scene where the Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ community takes the center stage.

Pose also tackles a lot of undying issues in the LGBTQ+ community like the HIV and AIDS epidemic that is still relevant in our time. It also deals with the rejection of gay youth, prejudices faced by the trans community.

The Danish Girl

A film that earned stars Eddie Redmayne an Oscar nomination and Alicia Vikander an Oscar win, The Danish Girl is a biographical film loosely based on the lives of painters Gerda Wegener and Lili Elbe, a transgender woman who was one of the first people to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Elisa & Marcela

Another biographical film, Elisa & Marcela tells the tale of Elisa Sanchez Loriga, who took on a fake male identity, in order to marry her girlfriend, Marcela Gracia in 1901 at the Church of Saint George in Spain. Interestingly, despite the Church eventually finding out that it wasn’t a heterosexual marriage, it was never annulled.

A Secret Love

Coming out as gay to family, friends, and society, in general, is often easier said and done. Many remain closeted and many relationships are kept a secret. A Secret Love follows the story of former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player Terry Donahue and her partner Pat Henschel as they manage to keep their secret for almost 70 years.

Feel Good

Feel Good stars the show’s creator, Mae Martin, a bisexual, non-binary comedian, writer, and actor. The series follows the main character, also named Mae, and is actually based on Mae Martin’s personal life, as she meets a repressed woman named George and the two begin dating. Things take an interesting turn when George learns that Mae is a former drug addict and Mae ends up attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
