Get to know Luis, the man behind EL’s Planet

Apr 10, 2022 0 comments

With almost 200 thousand subscribers and having more than 26 million total views on YouTube as of this writing, this young creator has shown that if you stay passionate about doing what you love, success will eventually follow. Luis Miguel is a 23-year-old YouTube Creator from Dubai who arrived in the country not several months ago to continue his content creation career. Born in the Philippines, raised in several countries, and has traveled to different parts of the globe, Luis is eager to showcase Filipino culture through his platform, El’s Planet, on youtube.

Purpose Driven Career

When you search the keyword “Foreigner reacts to Filipino” on Youtube, you would undoubtedly get EL’s Planet Videos as one of the top results. It’s no surprise because all the high-quality videos he uploads are always backed with research and commitment placed on each of them. Although most of the videos are reaction-themed, Luis wants to remind us that his platform is more than just a reaction page. His goal is to Bridge culture and inspire minds one video at a time.

“Content without a purpose is useless to me. There’s nothing wrong with producing content I’d label as “mindless fun,” but it isn’t what I wanted to do with my channel.

I wanted my channel to speak and educate,” Luis shared.

A One-Man Production Team

Given the high quality and well-thought-out vlogs, one may assume that there's a mighty creative team behind the scene. Surprisingly, Luis has to handle all of the pre-and post-production work alone. Luis's dedication and hard work are evident; originally a travel vlog, his channel has evolved into a reaction vlog and is now with actual celebrities as his featured guests.

“ I do everything behind the scenes by myself, from planning, casting, editing, and subtitling. I was even the cameraman when we still film in person (pre-pandemic). However, I have a good group of friends I ask opinions from if the video idea I have is good or not or if I have other EL’s Planet-related issues. My brother helps me from time to time as well,” Luis says.

“Back then, for the first season of the Filipinos react to K-Pop series, All I did was ask my friends from school if they wanted to do a video for my channel then we’d shoot right then and there at whatever classroom was available. For my Koreans React to OPM Series, I message my Korean friends and see who’s willing to do a video, then we’d shoot at my place. This goes for the early episodes of Foreigners React. When the pandemic began, I started DMing and Emailing influencers or people who might be willing, and I hope for the best. Usually, casting takes at least 1-3 days, sometimes even a whole week.” Luis added.

Overcoming Struggles

Being in the game for eight years, it’s inevitable not to experience bumps along the way, but Luis has a solid mindset to create a solid game plan for his channel. When I asked about his struggles, the creator admittedly said that being a YouTuber itself is a Challenge.

“I’ve been in the game since 2014, and my channel has changed several times already, and it isn’t easy to do that at all while trying to transition new content themes every few years seamlessly. EL’s Planet started as a travel vlog. It became a K-pop Reaction channel, then a Korean-Filipino cultural channel, then a channel that bridges several cultures worldwide with the Philippines, and now it’s slowly becoming a new hub for P-POP lovers.” Luis says.

Content He Is Most Proud Of

Given his channel's wide selection of high-quality content, viewers may find it challenging to determine which one is the best. Still, for Luis, it has to be the video he released titled -"Why Filipinos don't hate Japan the way Koreans do?”. He released it in the heat of the #CancelKoreaMovement in late 2020.

“ In essence, it’s a video that reflects our goal, which is to “Bridge culture and inspire minds one video at a time,” That video explained both the sides of Filipinos and Koreans as to why we see the Rising Sun Flag differently. It was all carefully interlocked with the occupation of Japan in the Philippines and their annexation of Korea through the bright minds of the young women of the Philippines. A lot of planning and research went into that video. It’s the video I’m most proud of to this day.” Luis shared proudly.

Harvesting The Fruits Of Labor

“My channel’s biggest milestone so far was reaching 100,000 ELites (Luis Fan/Subscribers official name) last 2020, and we’re almost reaching 200,000! Inspiring the minds of 200,000 people is something special to me, so I hope they stick around to see what happens next on the Purple Planet.” Luis concluded.

With his creativity and enthusiasm for content creation backed by his knowledge and take on topics that interest people, Luis' content creation career will continue to progress as the years roll by.
