The Powerpuff Girls grew up to be sad adults in new live-action adaptation

Sugar, spice, and everything nice, those were the ingredients Professor Utonium used to create the perfect little Powerpuff Girls— Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup — at least that's what everyone who grew up watching the beloved cartoon network series would remember and likely tell you.

However, things are changing in Townsville as the live-action adaptation of the 90's animated series will be having a darker and mature turn as the girls grew up to face the realities of life. Sounds familiar?

Here are some story details

The live-action The Powerpuff Girls will star Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Descendants' Dove as Bubbles, and singer-songwriter Yana Perrault as Buttercup.

While the animated series focused on The Powerpuff Girls as kids, the live-action reboot will showcase the girls in their early 20s now leaving behind their crime-fighting childhoods. Talk about childhood trauma.

Blossom is still as spunky with several advanced degrees but left her with a lot of baggage and anxiousness from her childhood. Bubbles is no longer the charming and sweet little girl as she once was as she will be grappling for the limelight. Meanwhile, the once fierce Buttercup is now living her life away from the public eye. Naturally, the trio will have to reunite to save the world from an as-yet-unknown catastrophe that will hopefully bring them back together.

The Powerpuff Girls doesn't yet have an official release date, but who knows? We might get it sooner than we expect.
