Aspiring to be a Food Blogger? Here are some tips and advice to help get you started

Jun 30, 2021 0 comments

These days, chances are you’ll see a post or two (or even way more) about mouthwatering food published by a food blogger or foodie. The ongoing pandemic hasn’t dampened their efforts to share delicious food, whether homemade or served by restaurants, and let the public know where to find the best eats in the metro.

We totally can’t blame you if these eye-catching posts tempted you to try your hand at being a foodie. And so to help any aspiring foodies out there, we’ve asked three food bloggers for tips, tricks, and advice they can share.

Food Wonders Manila (@foodwonders.mnl)

Foodie behind the account: Bea, 28

She’s been a food blogger for this long: 1 year

Apps and software every foodie must have: VSCO, Capcut, Inshot, Adobe Lightroom

Tips and tricks for taking a mouthwatering food photo: Find the best natural light. Take different angles. Need good plating and editing.

Writing tips and advice: Always think that you are a pro and an artist. Be OC and decorative like a pro chef or photographer. Be creative and know your aesthetic.

Other pieces of advice: Always go beyond and explore. Take your food to the next level. Always play!

Nix Jasmin (@ieatandiwander)

Foodie behind the account: Nix, 28

She’s been a food blogger for this long: 3 years

Apps and software every foodie must have: Snapseed, Youcut (for short clips), Unfold (collage), Add Watermark

Tips and tricks for taking a mouthwatering food photo: Just use your imagination, I guess. Also, consult experts. Haha! By saying experts, I am referring to my other foodie friends who I look up to as they take really mouthwatering photos. ;) But I can say just use your imagination, explore different angles.

Writing tips and advice: Just be yourself and always be honest. Just write your blog posts/captions the way you want it. I am always honest with my food reviews - if I really like it or if it can still be improved, I also give some recommendations.

Other pieces of advice: Don't do it just because of the freebies, do it because you love and enjoy doing it.

Spoons Around The World (@spoonsaroundtheworld)

Foodie behind the account: Neil, 27

He’s been a food blogger for this long: 6 years

Apps and software every foodie must have: Snapseed, Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, Adobe Lightroom

Tips and tricks for taking a mouthwatering food photo: 1. Use natural light! Natural light will give the food its natural color and appearance which will allow the people looking at your photo to see the essence of the food. 2. Nice props give additional highlight for the food. This will make the food standout better. 3. Aim for visual storytelling shots. Shoot the food with bare hands, chopsticks, spoon, or make an action with the food during the shoot. Make it as if you are telling a story based on the food shots!

Writing tips and advice: Know the history, concept, behind the story about the food you are sharing/shooting for the blog. This will allow you to connect, make your readers interested, and will give you a chance to learn more while enjoying what you love doing.

Other pieces of advice: Food blogging is more enjoyable when you have friends to share with the food you're interested to feature!
