This local podcast will help you prime your debating skills

Debating may seem daunting to some people. Believe me, I was one of those people— getting lost in the jargon of terms and finding it difficult to unpack so many ideas within seven minutes. But if you ever thought about joining your school’s debate team then I say go for it! While there are certainly some learning curves as you walk your first steps into debating, worry not! Debatable with Nina and Kyle has got you covered with the basics of debating and more!

Started in 2019, Nina Tomas and Kyle Atega are experienced debate coaches who came up with the idea of turning their debate conversations into a learning platform for every debater in both the local and international scene. Debatable’s episodes range from how to build your speech and argumentations, to approaching complex and info-heavy themes such as International Relations, Economics, and yes, even Love.

But Debatable is not just a crash course for debaters. It also gives insightful commentary on timely and worldy issues. It gauges your critical thinking skills and broadens your perspective. Nina and Kyle, along with the guests they feature in some of their episodes, offer inputs as a way of reminding us that the goal of debating is first and foremost to inform—that we should use what we've learned to engage with other people through healthy discourse. To better understand the complexities of the world, and make them digestible for everyone.

So for any debater out there who wants to learn more about the sport, and for anyone else who wants to digest broad and difficult concepts, follow Debatable on their Spotify Channel and on Twitter!
