Deo Cabrera's Gender-Neutral Fashion Revolution is Redefining Clothing Norms

Jun 22, 2023 0 comments

Why settle for conformity when you can blaze your own trail and redefine the game? Meet Deo Cabrera, the social media sensation who's been turning heads and breaking barriers with their bold and inventive fashion choices. Their TikTok page is a veritable feast for the eyes, featuring eye-catching "Campus Fits" and "OOTDs" that have garnered a devoted following of over 63.4k fans.

As a Psychology major at De La Salle University - Manila, Deo knows firsthand the power of self-expression and individuality. Despite facing discrimination and criticism, they refused to be bound by society's narrow fashion standards, declaring, "I refuse to let anyone else dictate what I can and can't wear."

With the help of their signature "feminine clothing" style, Deo has not only found the confidence to be their true self but has inspired countless others to do the same. So if you're tired of blending in with the crowd, take a page from their book and start making waves with your own unique fashion statement!

“Ano Ba Pake Mo”: The Empowering Attitude of Not Giving a Damn

At first, Deo admitted that they were not confident in wearing “feminine” clothing because of the fear that people might judge them, “But now, I really don’t care anymore. One thing I have learned from this process is that no matter what you do, people will judge you, so wear that short skirt, walk in your highest heels, show some skin with a crop top, and accentuate your figure with a dress,” they said. It’s time to live your life on your own terms, “Baka ijudge ka? Edi ano naman, ang OA nila damit lang yan,” they added.

As they continue defying societal expectations with clothing, Deo admits to getting weird stares and discriminatory comments. But what’s the secret to her unshakeable self-confidence? It is the art of not giving a damn, “I really have developed this ‘ano ba pake mo’ attitude which truly makes me forget about all the judgment and just slay,” they said.

Fully Living Authentically is a Process

Living your life authentically doesn’t happen in a snap, “fully living authentically does not happen overnight, it is a process. Before I got to where I am now in terms of wearing whatever I wanted, it was a long process of just trying skirts first then if I felt confident I would add a crop top, then a skirt, and so on and so forth,” Deo shared.

One of her biggest role models was Sef Loseo, they said, “When I first stumbled upon his Instagram back in 2021 sabi ko SHET ang ganda? And it made me realize that there are really no restrictions as to what a person can wear. As long as you feel and look good in it edi go!”

Deo also highlighted that having a safe environment and a good support system are two essential things for the LGBTQ+ community to live their true self, “Although I’d love to say “Just do it” I understand that we all have very different scenarios wherein just doing it may not be a viable or even safe option. So for those struggling to live authentically please make sure that you are in a safe environment to do so and that you have a good support system for moments when you are not feeling confident about who you are,” she explained

Defying Judgment and Embracing Self-Expression

As a human being, the stares and the comments sometimes gets on Deo’s nerves. But on the brighter side, Deo reiterated, “The joy of being able to confidently express myself gives me not just happiness, but euphoria.”

They also expressed their gratitude towards their supportive family and friends for accompanying them in her journey, “When I was first starting to play around with clothing they would compliment my looks, give me lots and lots of fashion advice, and even let me borrow their clothes. And without them by my side throughout this journey, I don’t think that I’ll be this confident and proud to step outside in the clothes that I want to wear.”

Inspiring and empowering are the perfect words to describe the TikTok content creator, Deo Cabrera. We’d like to see more of them slaying the internet by inspiring others to live their lives freely and authentically, embrace their uniqueness and express themselves confidently, right? Way to go, superstar!
