NCCA's PH-China Cultural Fashion Show is a Celebration of Diversity

Nov 5, 2023 0 comments

A vibrant tapestry of artistic expression and cross-cultural connections was woven together at the Philippines-China Cultural Festival, which took place at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Quezon City on October 24, 2023.

The festival was hosted as part of the overarching Executive Program for Cultural Collaboration between the Philippines and China. It saw a renaissance during the times of the pandemic said by NCCA.

"With open arms, we aspire to forge new friendships with Filipinos," stated Ambassador Huang Xilian of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of the Philippines. This sentiment underscores the festival's core objective, where the vibrant culture and spectacular arts of both nations serve as the catalyst for fostering lasting friendships and meaningful connections.

Collaboration of Culture and Arts

NCCA Chairperson Victorino Mapa Manalo emphasized in his address as delivered by NCCA Executive Director Oscar Casaysay that despite the obstacles faced, there is a continued emphasis on the significance of culture and arts as influential agents that serve to connect disparities and enable conversations. Mapa expressed his anticipation that this initiative would serve as a catalyst for deepening comprehension and fostering mutual respect between the two nations.

The eighth event initiated by the Chinese Cultural Courier signifies a significant step forward in the realm of people-to-people and cultural interactions between the Philippines and China. It represents an opportunity to forge friendships through fashion and convey emotions through the arts. This joint effort aims to explore uncharted territories in cultural exchanges and collaboration, constructing a fresh pathway for cross-cultural communication and shared learning between civilizations. Ultimately, it aspires to become a captivating tableau enhancing the cultural exchange between the Philippines and China.

Exchanges of Cultures

Filled with the abundance of arts, the two countries showcased their culture through its songs and dances. A Filipino choral group grooved in tune with classic songs Sumayaw Sumunod by The Boyfriends and Da Coconut Nut by Smokey Mountain while Chinese singers charmed with their rendition of Chinese songs accompanied by traditional instruments. Equally mesmerizing were the graceful Chinese folk dance performances that went from femme fatale presentation to amusing acrobatic act that kept the audience both captured and entertained.

Of course, cultural shows are always an opportunity to highlight traditional wear and Steve De Leon did not disappoint with his collections of Filipiniana Terno and Barong inspired to give tribute to Mother Mary. On the other hand, traditional Chinese dresses in an array of multicolor exhibited its vibrant history behind its textiles and hues.

In the midst of the Philippines-China Cultural Festival, it became clear that this was more than just a gathering of artists and cultural enthusiasts. It was a powerful testament to the unifying force of art and culture. As the final note reverberated and the curtains closed on this extraordinary celebration, the echoes of friendship, understanding, and appreciation lingered in the air. The festival speaks of the enduring importance of cultural diplomacy in building bridges and fostering goodwill between nations. The Philippines-China Cultural Festival demonstrated that art knows no borders and that through it, we can embrace a world filled with shared traditions, mutual respect, and profound connections.
