Days of Girlhood: Why Queen Dura is the Queen of Relatable Comedy

Let set the scene: It's the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. TikTok is still relatively new, and everyone’s on the app—sharing videos, doomscrolling, and just trying to survive staying home. Amidst the chaos, a new wave of content creators is blowing up: people dancing, making skits, and doing the most. Then, you stumble upon that creator—unapologetically funny, but never trying too hard. She’s got her own made-up language, dropping spitfire jokes that aren’t over the top but just right. That’s Queen Dura.

Fast forward four years later, and you’re still watching her. Queen Dura never missed a beat—always funny, always effortlessly real. Sure, other creators might try to copy her vibe, but they can never quite capture her authenticity.

Metroscene Mag was lucky enough to sit down with, Queen Dura during our September Cover shoot for "Days of Girlhood." And trust me, it’s as hilarious as it is inspiring—the perfect combo if you ask me.

Humor for All Seasons

Humor shouldn’t be complicated. It’s really just about being yourself, and that’s exactly what Queen Dura is all about. She’s unapologetically her quirky self, whether it’s during her live videos or pre-recorded content. No scripts, no planned-out plots—just little moments of authenticity and fun. And honestly, it’s hard to put into words, but gets niya tayo. You watch Queen Dura and instantly think, “This is me,” without even questioning it.

“Actually, hindi. Kasi nung una, ang alam ko lang is gumagawa ako ng funny videos, tapos di ko akalain na lalawak siya ng ganito,” said when we asked if they ever thought her content would blow up.

But how did all these shenanigans really kick off? It all began with the OG Vebs Squad—Queen Dura, Ernalyn, Dakota Notes, and Sesable—just uploading videos on TikTok and YouTube. They were simply doing what friends do, sharing their kulitan moments, and serving hilarious antics. But what really set Queen Dura apart, what truly made her stand out, was one moment in particular.

True to her namesake, it all started with a simple spit joke.

Who would've thought that something so random would turn into an entire empire for Queen Dura? She took something silly and made it iconic. “For me, yung pag-Dura talaga. Kasi dun ako mas na-established as Queen Dura,” they said when we asked her about the moments that really shaped her online persona.

That single spit moment—it wasn’t just a joke anymore. It became the thing that solidified her presence, defining who she is and how she connects with her audience. Just like the spit joke that transcends all ages and backgrounds, Queen Dura’s humor is timeless—made for everyone, no matter the season.

Queen of The People

As fun as it sounds, finding fame on the internet can be a bittersweet experience, and Queen Dura is no stranger to that. But that’s a story for another time.

What truly shaped the Queen Dura we know today goes beyond her past or any struggles—it's the pure relatability of her content. Her humor hits home because she’s never trying to be someone she’s not. What makes her a queen is that she’s always stayed grounded. Since day one, she’s been on top of her game, navigating hiccups like a pro—learning, moving on, and letting her humor do its magic.

More than ever, Queen Dura credits her supporters for making the journey worth it. And, like the true queen she is, she’s quick to show her gratitude to those who’ve stood by her. “They inspire me to be better,” Queen Dura shared. “Sobrang laking epekto at tulong ng social media to boost my confidence, lalo na yung mga supporters ko na sobrang positive ng outlook towards life.”

And she walks the talk. She makes every effort to stay connected with her followers. "As much as possible, gusto ko konektado pa rin ako sa audiences ko, yung followers/fans actually. Since then, nakikipag-usap, interact ako sa kanila," she says.

What truly sums up Queen Dura is the “Yes, that’s me” level of relatability she gives off when you watch her. She’s been through rough times, but she’s learned, survived, and continues to make the best out of whatever life throws at her. Most importantly, she never forgets the people who matter—a true queen of the people.

Queen Dura vs. Self

You might think that Queen Dura, always at her best, never has off days—but you'd be wrong. A queen is still human, and she feels all the feels too. In fact, she revealed that, contrary to her online persona, she can actually be pretty quiet and reserved at times.

"I think yung misconception ng mga tao na kapag nakikita nila ako minsan off cam na tahimik, tapos sweet girl lang hahahaha. Kasi online, ang alam nila makulit ako, magaslaw, maingay. Pero there’s one side of me na tahimik ako talaga," she shared.

Even more, Queen Dura admits that self-doubt sometimes creeps in, leading to real-life moments where she faces her biggest opponent—herself.

“Yung body shaming talaga, kasi alam naman natin gaano kalala ang bashing sa social media. Pero yung mga friends ko, they keep reminding me how beautiful and sexy I am,” Queen Dura said when we asked them about the fears or insecurities they dealt with.

It’s a reminder that behind the jokes and the iconic persona, Queen Dura is just as real as any of us—dealing with insecurities, but always rising above them, thanks to her strong support system.

Nice, Meeting you Queen!

As we wrapped up our conversation in the short time we had, Queen Dura felt every bit like royalty and then some. Her honesty, courage, and willingness to lay bare her thoughts and struggles showed us exactly why she’s one of a kind. A true Queen in every sense of the word.
