Disney’s first look at the live-action Moana trailer is here

A fresh wave rolls in as Disney finally drops the official teaser for its live-action Moana, giving fans a long-awaited glimpse of how the beloved animated world transforms into something spectacularly real.

The first trailer and poster for the highly anticipated reimagining—starring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as the trickster demigod Maui—arrived today, setting the stage for a new chapter in the modern Disney classic.

The minute-long teaser holds its biggest reveal until the very end, where we see 18-year-old Catherine Lagaʻaia—stepping into the role originally voiced by Auli’i Cravalho—up close for the first time. Before that, the trailer drifts through lush shots of Moana brushing her hand across the ocean’s surface and wandering the vibrant landscapes of the Pacific Islands, all while singing “I Am Moana.”

The cast rounds out with Auckland native John Tui as Moana’s steadfast father, Chief Tui; Samoan–New Zealander Frankie Adams as her warm yet strong-willed mother, Sina; and New Zealand’s own Rena Owen as the ever-wise Gramma Tala.

Directed by Emmy® and Tony Award® winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda—with Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho serving as executive producers—the film promises sweeping visuals, emotional storytelling, and reimagined musical moments.

Disney’s live-action Moana sails into U.S. theaters on July 10, 2026.
