If everyone can be a viral sensation now, the real question is who’s willing to do the work that comes after the spotlight hits?
In the age of virality, everyone gets to be seen; popularity can be as simple as hitting “upload.” But visibility isn’t stardom. Anyone can go viral, but to be a star is a conscious choice to claim your artistry.
Sassa Gurl understands this, and the proof is in her work. From creating viral videos to becoming a rapper and producing music, to doing high-fashion editorials and walking the runway, her work is a clear indication of her intention to grow and push her art.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that we are witnessing the birth of a star.
Sassa Gurl is a Star
The past few years have been kind to Sassa Gurl. There has been no dull moment in her career as she continues to explore her artistry. It has been a breath of fresh air for us, witnessing someone evolve right before our very eyes.
Sassa has been featured in several films and television projects, hosting shows such as Drag Den Philippines and Takeshi’s Castle Philippines, and acting in Prinsesa ng City Jail and Mga Batang Riles, as well as playing a notable role in Balota and Dreamboi. But 2025 marked a turning point, as she fully stepped into the shoes of a movie star. Sassa starred in not just one but two Manila Film Festival entries, Bar Boys: After School and Shake, Rattle & Roll, and even released the trailer for her upcoming film, 'Multwoh'.
“Nasa ‘tapang’ ang susi,” she shared in our exclusive interview. “Ang comedy kasi, comfort zone ko ‘yan; hindi ko lubos akalain na magiging serious actor ako ngayong 2025. Nung tinanggap ko ‘yung Bar Boys, sobrang kabado ako. Infairness, na-pull off naman namin siya. Ang sa Shake, Rattle and Roll naman, kahit comedy ‘yung strength ko, tinodo ko pa din nang malala, hindi ako nagpakampante. Ayan, super nagulat ako sa good reviews sa performance ko on both films.”
“Mas malinaw na sa akin ngayon kung ano ang gusto ko, at mas marami na akong natutunan along the way. I want to push myself even harder, especially as I prepare for my next project this 2026—a new film titled Multwoh.”
Star for the people
What sets Sassa Gurl apart is not just her rise, but her resolve. Her growth is intentionally earned through discipline, risk-taking, and a refusal to stay comfortable. Each project becomes a study in craft, each performance a deeper commitment to becoming better than she was before. Stardom, for her, isn’t a finish line; it’s a responsibility as her work carries weight beyond herself.
“Yung mga recent film projects ko—Bar Boys, Shake, Rattle and Roll, at Dreamboi—lahat sila may mas makabagong narrative. Kaya naniniwala ako na tumatalino ang Pilipino, at magandang pangitain ’yun. Apart from making art films that aim to expose and educate, being part of these kinds of films makes me feel like mas nafu-fulfill ko yung purpose ko as an artist. Kaya sana, sa mga sinehan, babaan naman yung presyo ng tickets para maging accessible sa masa ang pelikulang Pilipino.”
As a queer artist navigating mainstream spaces, she understands that visibility alone is not enough—representation must be done with care, honesty, and excellence. By showing up fully and doing the work, she proves that queer stories deserve complexity, range, and leading roles that are not defined by punchlines or limits. Her presence opens doors, but her dedication keeps them open.
“I want my Nakshits to feel seen. I want them to feel empowered—na kapag napanood nila yung pelikula ko, mararamdaman nila na bida ako ng isang kuwento, hindi lang basta comic relief o best friend ng kung sino man. Gusto kong maramdaman ng mga manonood ko na mahalaga ang kuwento nila.”
Sassa the artist
For Sassa Gurl, the sky isn’t just the limit but rather an open invitation. Her journey is proof that talent may open doors, but it is discipline, courage, and relentless work that sustain a career. In an industry that often rewards shortcuts and spectacle, she chooses the longer road: one built on craft, purpose, and responsibility to the stories she tells and the people she represents.
She reminds us that artistry is not static, but an evolution, marked by humility and an unwavering belief in one’s voice. And as Sassa continues to rise, she carries with her a quiet yet powerful message: that with hard work, intention, and heart, artists are capable of shaping culture, expanding representation, and turning possibility into a lasting legacy.
In a world where anyone can be seen, Sassa Gurl chooses to be felt and that is what makes her a star.
