Catriona Gray x NIñOFRANCO Spotlight Mindanao Artistry in Latest Collaboration

If there’s one thing we know about Catriona Gray, it’s this: she will always represent. Whether on the global stage or through meaningful creative projects, the Miss Universe 2018 titleholder continues to champion Filipino culture with intention and pride. Her latest collaboration with local fashion brand NIñOFRANCO is no exception—offering a deeply personal and culturally rooted collection that puts Mindanao artistry front and center.

Titled as a tribute rather than just a fashion drop, the Catriona Gray x NIñOFRANCO collection is a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship, and community. In her recent Instagram post unveiling the collaboration, Gray shared:

“The Catriona x NIñOFRANCO collection is my love letter to Mindanao — its artistry, its heritage, and the incredible hands behind every craft.” 🇵🇭

And true to her word, every piece in the collection reflects that love letter.

A Cultural Narrative Woven into Fashion

In collaboration with NIñOFRANCO, the collection brings together authentic Mindanao textiles and techniques, thoughtfully translated into contemporary silhouettes. At its core is the use of traditional ikat fabric, crafted from cotton sourced through the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), highlighting both innovation and heritage in Filipino textile production.

The collection also features intricate beadwork by the Bagobo Tagabawa, alongside delicate embroidery from Lake Sebu, a cultural hub known for its rich T'boli traditions. Finishing touches like mother-of-pearl accents add a subtle, organic elegance—elevating each piece while staying grounded in its roots.

Composed of six versatile silhouettes, the collection is designed with inclusivity in mind. Three of these pieces are genderless, reinforcing a vision of fashion that is both accessible and expressive. The designs are intentionally easy and wearable, meant not just for statement moments, but for everyday life.

Honoring Mindanao’s Ethno-Linguistic Communities

Beyond aesthetics, the collaboration underscores NIñOFRANCO’s ongoing commitment to working with Mindanao’s diverse communities. The brand continues to collaborate with ethno-linguistic groups such as the Bagobo Tagabawa, T'boli, Blaan, and Tagakaulo, ensuring that these cultural traditions are not only preserved, but actively celebrated and sustained through fashion.

More than just a collection, this collaboration is a cultural bridge connecting wearers to the stories, pride, and spirit of Mindanao. It’s a reminder that fashion can be both personal and political, aesthetic and ancestral.

As Catriona herself puts it, the hope is simple yet powerful: to allow people to carry a piece of Mindanao with them wherever they go.
