Jan 18, 2021 0 comments

Sorry to burst your bubble, but students from the University of the Philippines (UP) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) aren't only good at protests. ShockedOur Iskolar ng bayans have been working hard on different projects to help fight COVID-19 in the country.

Here are the 'ambag' of our Iskolar ng bayan in the fight against COVID-19:

 COVID-19 TEST KITS - UP

The kits, which were previously developed back in February by microbiology and biotechnology expert Dr. Raul Destura and the scientists from the University of the Philippines (UP), is now approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The locally-made kits will cost the government much less than the foreign ones currently being used to detect cases of the novel coronavirus in the country.

ETHYL ALCOHOL - PUP

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines' Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) developed a local version of ethyl alcohol in efforts to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The alcohol will be donated to frontliners and health workers in the country.

COVID-19 HOTLINE -UP

The University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) launched its COVID-19 Operations Center Hotline for patients, donors, and volunteers.

Patients, as well as donors and volunteers, can contact the UP-PGH COVID-19 Operations Center Hotline 155-200 for questions about COVID-19.

With the increasing demand for personal protective equipment (PPE), the Colleges of Engineering (CE) and Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) of PUP Sta. Mesa produced 3D printed face shields and developed an original protective helmet for COVID-19 frontliners.

SANITATION TENTS -UP

SANITATION TENTS -UP - METROSCENE MAG
A group of students from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman designed a sanitation tent that can be used to help stop the spread of the CoViD-19. The team is composed of industrial designers, chemists, and engineers from UP Diliman.

To be an Isko/Iska ng bayan is not just about letting the citizens of our nation pay for our tuition fee, but being an "Iskolar ng Bayan" means being ready to serve the country. The next time you utter the words: "Puro rally lang naman alam," think twice.
