Filipino artists unite for ‘HINDI KO PRESIDENTE’ collaborative album

Aug 9, 2022 0 comments

When we say art is a protest, this is what we mean: Filipino artists producing an album to reject another Marcos presidency.

Musicians WYP, M466OT, obese.dogma777, karlovvv, Arkibong Bayan, Echo, NiMa, Mocksmile, skinxbones, and PROLET are featured on a ten-track album called HINDI KO PRESIDENTE (Not My President). These Filipino rappers and producers produced this new compilation through the cultural group Tambisan Sa Sining two weeks before President Bongbong Marcos, Jr.'s inauguration.

An altered image of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and young Bongbong Marcos Jr. appears as the cover art with their faces and hands in a blood-like color.

The tracks in the album include audio clips from speeches, rallies, interviews, and protests against the new administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who won the 2022 presidential bid and proclaimed as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines. Other themes include calls for agrarian reform and fighting for labor and workers' rights.

"MARCOS-DUTERTE, ITAKWIL AT LABANAN," are written in the album's notes. This is due to Sara Duterte's alliance with Bongbong Marcos Jr. during the presidential and vice-presidential elections. Their tandem is seen as the continuation of another administration of dictatorship.
