National Book Store needs to bring back the "books" in store

Sep 2, 2023 0 comments

Maybe it's the smell of the books, the sound of pages turning, or the memories we shared browsing books with friends even though we didn't have the money to buy a book. But whatever it is, National Book Store has always been a part of many Filipino stories.

Many Filipinos have fond memories of visiting the National Book Store during their childhood, as it was often a place where they could buy the latest books, comics, and school supplies. Moreover, in recent years, the store has evolved and expanded its product offerings to include items such as office supplies, gifts, and even fashion items.

Bring Back the Books!

Recently netizens are beginning to observe that the selection of books in the National Book Store is diminishing. And unfortunately, some branches are also closing down.

As some netizens pointed out, the Book store has become a "sad" place to go since the selected books displayed are the same ones they've seen for years and have become outdated.

They need to start keeping up with trends

There could be a variety of reasons why the store may not have as many books as before. It's possible that the store is experiencing difficulties with their supply chain or there's been a decrease in demand for print books due to the shift to digital formats. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a major impact on many businesses, and it's possible that National Book Store has been impacted as well.

But there are still a lot of ways for National Bookstore to continue providing books and literary materials for the customers. Despite the emergence of e-publications, a lot of readers still prefer physical book copies, as proven by the annual success of the Manila International Book Fair, and one of the well-known participants during the said event is National Book Store.

National Book Store could take this opportunity to cater to more Filipino authors. Carrying a selection of books from Filipino authors can be a great way to showcase the depth and breadth of Philippine literature, from contemporary fiction to classic literature, poetry and non-fiction. It can also provide an opportunity for new and emerging writers to have a platform to showcase their works to a broader audience.

National Book Store assures its customers

Despite the ongoing crisis, National Book Store says they’re still the same bookstore people have loved for years.

“We remain committed to providing an ideal shopping experience nationwide in all of our branches. We also wish to express our gratitude to all of our customers who returned to their back-to-school shopping at National Book Store, especially after 2 long years without face-to-face classes”

Additionally, the bookstore assures that they’re aware of their customer's feedback and will keep them in mind as they continue to provide quality service through their stores and products.
