Meet the First Queer Filipino Model to Walk Mugler's Fashion Show

Jan 27, 2023 0 comments

Cebu-based model and designer Lukresia, who you may know as @thirdworldbb on Instagram, made history as the first queer Filipino to walk the Mugler Fashion Show.

Lukresia debuted on the haute couture's ready-to-wear runway wearing a metallic silver long-sleeved fringe crop-top and leather-chapped pants.

The rise of Lukresia started when they started posting their photos on Instagram, modeling for designers like Carl Jan Cruz, and creating Mugler-esque homemade looks. They have built a following in local fashion circles and got featured on Mugler's Instagram account.

As a local queer aspiring to make it big in the industry, Lukresia had gone a long way. Now, she not only represents the queer community but also proves that there are many talents and gems around the country.

"Fashion and queerness are symbiotic. We run fashion. Without us, fashion would be bland. Can you imagine? That's a bold statement, but I live by it. [But] there is a thing about tokenizing queer people. My wish is for us to be genuinely appreciated," they said in their interview with Pree.ph

They also shared that the bb in thirdworldbb is their way to reclaim the word "bayot" and "boang" which are usually derogatory terms for people who are unique and misunderstood by others.
