Best Songs From High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Aug 19, 2021 0 comments

Aside from the teenage theater antics, multi-talented actors, and stunning musical performances, the ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ has loads of relatable and catchy original songs that just might be what you’ve been looking for. While the cast of the Disney+ series covered some of the classic tunes from the iconic High School Musical trilogy that we all miss, the new tracks may leave you wanting more.

To help you navigate the soundtrack we ranked some of the original songs from the first and second season!

“1-2-3”

Nothing can take away the spotlight from Ashlyn (Julia Lester), Kourtney (Dara Reneé), and Gina (Sofia Wylie) when they auditioned as a trio and fired up the stage with their powerful performance of “1-2-3”. Indeed, they are the iconic girl group that we didn't know we needed.

“Let You Go”

While going through a hard time dealing with a recent breakup, Ricky went to see his mom in Chicago. She comforted him and told him that sometimes, letting the person go is the best thing to do. Trying to find a sense of closure, he wrote the song and performed it in his bedroom on the piano.

“Just for a Moment”

The HSMTMTS musical team gave Olivia Rodrigo another opportunity to write a song for the series but this time it’s with her co-star Joshua Bassett who plays Ricky. Their on-screen chemistry is on a whole new level and made us feel they truly had a moment in love. But, is a moment enough?

“The Rose Song”

Nini shined brightest at the end of season two's sixth episode when she performed the emotional and empowering piece entitled, “The Rose Song”, which conveyed her true feelings of being confined like a rose inside a glass. The writer behind this magical composition is none other than Olivia Rodrigo herself. It is her third credited song in the series and you can really tell that her singing and song-writing abilities are on point.

“Wondering”

This song is written by Ashlyn (Julia Lester) for her character as Ms. Darbus in East High’s production of High School Musical. She performed it with Nini during the second episode of the first season. Miss Jen (Kate Reinders) pitched the idea for Ashlyn to compose this song and it turned out amazing. It’s all about regrets and the confusion that comes after making life-changing decisions. A remarkable line from the song asks a question that goes, “On the other side of all I’ve had and lost, would it be enough or would I still be wondering?”

“All I Want”

“All I Want” is a pop ballad piece originally penned by Olivia Rodrigo herself for her role as Nini and its far the best track on the franchise! There we said it! This is certainly one of the songs that offered us a glimpse of her song-writing talent before her debut single, “Driver’s License”, was released. The song reflected Nini's contemplation about her current and past lovers in episode four of season one. Upon discovering that her current boyfriend E.J. (Matt Cornett) is not who she really thinks he is, as well as looking back on another short lived relationship, Nini poured all her emotions into writing “All I Want” because well, who wouldn’t want a love that lasts?
