In collaboration with ABS CBN’s iWant TV and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the leading exponent of Philippine theater, Tanghalang Pilipino will be streaming six theater productions online starting on May 30 to June 30, 2020.


The month-long event will showcase the productions of three native stories from the Philippines and three adaptations of William Shakespeare’s works in Filipino.

Lam-Ang

'Lam-ang' is an ethno-epic musical inspired from the original story of Biag ni Lam-ang, an Ilocano folk epic of Luzon by Isabelo delos Reyes and translated in Filipino by Angel Acacio and Ariel Tabag. The production starred JC Santos as Lam-ang and Anna Luna as Kannoyan, Lam-ang’s beloved.

Mabining Mandirigma

'Mabining Mandirigma' is about the legal and diplomatic heroism of Apolinario Mabini. The play is written by Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, and earned 12 out of 13 awards at the Gawad Buhay Awards in 2015.

Sandosenang Sapatos

'Sandosenang Sapatos' is a classic story for children written by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan. The story revolves around a wheelchair-bound girl named Susi, and her dream to become a ballerina. Layeta Bucoy adapted the story for the theater production.

Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-araw

'Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-araw' is an adaptation play of William Shakespeare’s 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream', translated by Rolando Tinio and directed by Carlos Siguin-Reyna.

Coriolano

'Coriolano' is a story of a legendary Roman soldier turned into tyrant but failed miserably. The story was translated by Guelan Luarca and directed by Carlos Siguon-Reyn.

Der Kaufmann

'Der Kaufmann' is an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice.' The production was was directed by Rody Vera and translated by Rolando Tinio. The theater production garnered seven Gawad Buhay Awards.
