The Loki series is the best thing to come out of the MCU, hands down

Jul 27, 2021 0 comments

Despite his death in Infinity War, Loki continues to live out his glorious purpose in his self-titled Disney+ show! Or at least, a version of our beloved God of Mischief. Today, I would like to share with you my review of “Loki” based on its plot, characters, aesthetic, and message.

Plot: We needed more and it was given

Set in an alternate timeline created in Avengers: Endgame, “Loki” gives viewers another chance to enjoy the adventures of the God of Mischief after his heroic, but tragic death in Avengers: Infinity War. In my opinion, the story’s really great!

I’m always a big fan of the science fiction trope of time travel and alternate realities, so Loki’s solo outing is truly one of the most enjoyable projects of the MCU.

For me, the best time travel and/or alternate reality stories are those that recontextualizes a character’s life and helps them see it in a brand-new light. The show did that extremely well by revealing to this version of Loki that he is but a “variant”, of the original who died. With this realization, Loki develops a new sense of purpose and tries to do better with his life.

 Characters: Allies or Enemies

The lead characters are great and enjoyable to watch! They each have their own agenda and game to play, so you never know if the people on screen will stay as allies or enemies, which interactions are super intriguing. The best example of this was when Loki meets Sylvie for the first time in 2055, and we don’t know if the two will start working together, or kill each other.

A personal favorite of mine is definitely the enchanting Loki variant, Sylvie. I enjoy her tragic backstory, more embittered personality, and the fact that she’s even deadlier than the show’s main Loki. I can’t wait to see more of her in the MCU soon!

Aesthetic: Holywood perfection!

The Time Variance Authority’s usage of a retro-futuristic theme is spectacular! Just like time travel itself, the aesthetic of the show gives you a nostalgic sense of the past, while giving you the exciting and unknown world of the far future. With this aesthetic, “Loki” surely wins in the overall set design and special effects department.

Message: “Loki” has everything I want in a show!

The show talks about learning how to take control of your life. The Disney+ series teaches us to not let anyone or our circumstances stop us from achieving what we believe to be our glorious purpose.

With its great story, characters, aesthetic, and message, “Loki” has everything I want in a show! This one is so far my favorite Disney+ series, and I can’t wait for Season 2. I’m giving it a 5 out of 5 stars.
