Tell us something about yourself?

My name is Katelyn Miñoso. I was born and raised in Iloilo City. I’m currently taking up a Bachelor’s Degree of Advertising and Public Relations in Assumption College – San Lorenzo Makati. I love to draw and paint since I was 9 years old, but it was only when I was 13 wherein, I started to hone my interest and skill for it. Ever since then, my whole life has been revolving around that identity of mine.

Where do you draw inspiration for your art?

As cliché as it may sound, I get inspiration from anywhere- but mainly on everyday scenes that best represents our Filipino culture. So, this may be in our public market, the China downtown, the fishing port, etc. Scenes like these really piques my interest because I love how raw everything is. from the smiling people to the chaotic scene. Everything is just full of life and it makes me happy.

Describe your art style?

I’ve heard people describing my art as like a mishmash of fauvism, impressionism, and pop-art. Personally, the use of vivid, bold, and unusual colors represents the liveliness or the energy I see and feel whenever I immerse in these every day and ordinary scenes.

Have you always wanted to become an artist?

When I was younger, no. I never decided to be one as it only came out naturally. However, people have known me as one for so many years that it somehow already created that expectation that I have to keep on creating and showing art; it’s honestly pressuring and there are times that I would get art block whenever I fall into the pressure. This usually happens when something does not align with my values and principles as an artist. So, it’s nice that I have at least have that awareness that would help me discern what to do and what not to do that will help me stay true to myself.
