These underrated local cover artists are worth listening to



If there’s one thing Filipinos love to do, it’s to sing. Off-key or not, it’s a favorite pastime of Filipinos, whether in the bathroom or in some random karaoke spot in the middle of a street. Many Filipinos have taken it to the next level by posting their cover songs on YouTube. Some have even made careers out of them, like Daryl Ong (if you haven’t seen his cover of Mariah Carey’s One Sweet Day with other talented artists, you’re missing out) and even Arnel Pineda, whose cover songs he performed with his former band, The Zoo, was seen by Journey online.

Today, we shine the spotlight on the under-the-radar cover artists you can find on YouTube. From old classics to newer hits, these artists cover a wide range of music, and we’re sure you’ll find one to love and LSS on over and over again.



Meggy Katigbak 

 A quick browse A quick browse through Meggy’s YouTube channel shows she’s covered certified hit songs like Side A’s Forevermore, Linda Thompson’s Remember Me This Way, and Mandy Moore’s Only Hope. She’s since taken her singing a step further by writing and producing her own songs, releasing singles like I’m in Love and Home. 



Echo Dominguez 

From Justin Bieber and Pink Sweat$ to Moira Dela Torre and Ben & Ben, Echo Dominguez covers a wide range of genres both local and foreign. Often armed with his trusty guitar, he also occasionally collaborates with other artists as well. Check out his covers by visiting his YouTube channel.



RAINA

Though you will often see her covering the artists of today such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Magnus Haven in her YouTube channel, RAINA isn’t one to shy away from the timeless classics like Boyz II Men’s On Bended Knees, James Ingram’s Just Once, and Shania Twain’s You’re Still The One. She does other content as well, including mukbang videos and even content on love and relationships. 


Rai Javier

There’s just something really calming about hearing someone sing and play the ukulele at the same time. If it happens to be your thing, you may want to check out Rai Javier’s YouTube. She’s done covers of songs by Kacey Musgraves and LANY and those part of the soundtrack of Avatar: The Last Airbender and BoJack Horseman. Plus, she also has original songs in her channel too!
